Incinerator bottom ash aggregate
granova® is a high quality secondary aggregate made from what society leaves behind. Household waste that is not recycled can be incinerated in Energy from Waste (EfW) plants to produce energy. A valuable by-product of this process is bottom ash – around six million tonnes of bottom ash is produced per year in Germany. By treating the ash in specialised plants, valuable metals are recycled and the mineral content is treated to attain construction material quality.
Secondary aggregate valuable resscource
Natural mineral materials like gravel, sand or crushed rock are important resources. Construction industry demand for these materials is high – more than seven tonnes per capita per year in Germany alone. With primary resources limited, and planning permissions becoming increasingly restricted due to environmental considerations, the use of both primary and secondary aggregates has become a critical theme for the future. granova® plays a vital role in achieving a future-oriented and balanced approach to the use of construction material.
